Margot Perkinson has an uncanny ability for expressing her inner world through songs that are both deeply personal and universal. Her voice effortlessly glides through an impressive vocal range, with a tone that shifts from casual intimacy, to subtle ironies, to joyful choruses. She expresses vulnerability, strength, and a free spirit through songs that are infectious and well-crafted. At 16 years old, this North Carolina-born singer songwriter has a drive to create songs that connect with her audience and are made for singing along.
“Music is an experience to be shared,” Margot says. “Nothing compares to the exhilaration of singing to a crowd, seeing them becoming drawn in, and connecting with my music.”
From producer Billy Smiley's production, bringing in mixing engineer Joshua Frerichs, and to the players who play for artists like Brad Paisley, Rascal Flatts, Vince Gill, and Michael McDonald, these new songs are the beginning of a new venture into the expressive world of Margot.
Margot has been a lover of all kinds of music from her earliest days. “I love Madison Beer, Fleetwood Mac, Dolly Parton, Elvis Presley, you name it. I love all kinds of music and my song-writing reflects this blend of influences. I write songs that both tell stories from my imagination and reflect who I am. I hope that they will connect with diverse audiences, whether they prefer country, Americana, pop, or rock.”
Margot’s listeners are rewarded with an expansive array of songs that reflect their own worlds. Her debut single “Second Spark” drew in listeners with its melodic pop groove. In “Real Life,” one experiences the dreaminess of young love, while “Something More” reflects the regret of love lost. Her imaginative lyricism is evident in “Traffic,” which develops an every day frustration into a deeper emotional realization:
I’ve been on the road since morning
Which might just be a warning
I shouldn’t get to you
Cause I’m already low on fuel
And it would just be cruel
To break down again
Margot’s plaintive voice paints the scene so vividly that the listener experiences it. “My voice, and my songs, are my way of creating a bond with my listeners and joining them on a voyage of discovery.”
But it is on the stage where she’s most at home. She has a natural, confident presence on stage. “I’ve loved performing since I was a little girl, whether dancing, singing, or theater. And that’s what I love the most, having the chance to be with an audience, sharing my songs and joining in an experience together.”
Margot wants to invite you to one of her performances, so she can draw you into her world.
